cooking and eating in Berlin (and elsewhere)

with 2 comments

This blog is a place for me to share recipes I love with friends and family.

I’m an english woman living in Berlin.  I love to cook and to garden, although living in a flat means that I have to limit my planting to the balcony.

My partner and I are in the process of setting up an english bakers – We’re still pretty small – but you can try our cakes, scones and biscuits at various to cafes around Kreuzberg (SO36). Follow the @hudsonscakes Twitter feed to find out where we’ve just delivered to.

I intend to write about what I’m cooking, seasonal ingredients, places to shop, places to eat….anything food related really.

  1. Good morning! (19 July 2010)
Lovely Flickr pictures from you, very inspiring!!
I have saved your pictures of Gooseberry and Elderflower cake, because we have a very small garden, and includes one little bush of red gooseberries. Your cake is the answer – but what is the filling – cream, mascarpone, creme fraiche, fromage blanc …… ?? I would like to make it this afternoon for my granddaughter’s birthday party tomorrow.
    Many thanks, Val

    • Hi Val,

Thank you! I’m glad you like the pictures, and I hope the reply isn’t too late.

I actually used a recipe for Gosseberry Gems on the BBC Good Food site, and made it in one tin. The combination of Elderflower and Gooseberry is lovely.
One tip though, leave the gooseberrys to drain in a sieve for a while, or they end up far too wet. (The syrup makes a nice cordial, so isn’t wasted)

      The recipe is here:
